Release a phone number
Remove a DID from this company and from phone service. Confirm first — this cannot be undone.
Tenant admins do this at Admin → Phone numbers (/admin/numbers).
Release
- Under Company numbers, find the E.164.
- Click Release.
- Confirm. Octone removes the number from this company, clears any division link, and releases it from phone service when the number is live.
The number can go back to inventory. You would need to search and buy again to reuse it.
When to use it
- The company no longer wants that DID
- You bought the wrong area code
- A trial number should not stay on the account
Inbound calls and SMS to a released number will not reach this company.
